Women at War
Did you know?
In World War One, women did men’s jobs for the very first time!
Your Mission
Can you tell what organisation the cross on the ambulance stands for?
Video script:
In this display, the airmen have been shot down and are badly hurt. But don’t worry — a nurse is on her way, driving the ambulance through the mud to get them safely to the army hospital.
Women did lots of important jobs in the war, too. They worked as nurses, doctors, and drivers. Back home, they made bullets and bombs in dangerous factories, and they also built parts for aeroplanes.
Because so many men went away to fight, women had to step in and do their jobs and look after their families. Even children helped out, working on farms and in factories. Everyone had to do their bit to help their country.
