Experience Omaka's Wings & Wheels Open Day

On Sunday,28 September 2025, the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre invites you to its Wings & Wheels Open Day — a day of vintage aircraft, classic cars, and family-friendly activities from 10 am to 3 pm.

Unmissable Highlights

Get up close to an incredible collection of historic aircraft and vehicles, and step inside Omaka’s world-class exhibitions that bring WWI and WWII stories to life. For those who prefer to take to the skies, the Marlborough Aero Club will be offering Trial Flights with an instructor for only $125 or channel your inner fighter pilot and feel the G forces in Yak-3 Full Noise!

This September, we are offering two new experiences:

✨ Run a Rotary Engine – Thanks to Classic Aero Machining, four people will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to stand behind a rotary engine, flip the switches, and feel the raw power in action. Spaces are $200 each, strictly limited, and supervised with a full safety briefing. All proceeds go toward preparing Omaka’s resident Fokker D.VIII — on loan from Germany — for its first test flights. (First in, first served!)

✨ Explore the DC-3 – Step inside the iconic DC-3 aircraft for a gold coin donation. There are not many of these beauties still flying in the world and it is a rare opportunity to go back in time!

Food, Fun, and Atmosphere

The Omaka Café will be open alongside guest food stalls serving burgers, doughnuts, ice creams, and more. Bring a picnic rug or deck chair and settle in for a relaxed day of exploration and entertainment.
