Omaka Wings & Wheels Open Day 2025
Sunday, 28 September 2025, marked the start of daylight savings and another Omaka Wings & Wheels Open Day. As marquees went up and food trucks and classic cars rolled in, the site came to life in preparation for a day of community and celebration. Our team of volunteers had been hard at work the previous day, setting up for what we hoped would be a good crowd — and we weren’t disappointed.
More than a thousand visitors came along to support the fundraiser and enjoy unlimited museum access, over 100 classic cars, and a diverse collection of vintage aircraft. While there was no formal flying programme this time, Omaka’s position beside the airfield meant there was nearly always something happening overhead — from Mark O’Sullivan in the Pitts and Harvard, to Nigel Griffith’s Beaver, and Graeme Frew in Full Noise carrying out pre-arranged joy flights.
On the ground, visitors enjoyed the chance to go behind the scenes, peeking into private hangars to see restoration projects in progress and chat with the experts. The opportunity to step aboard the Airscapade DC-3 for a gold coin donation proved popular with all ages, and as always, the Gnome rotary engine runs by Classic Aero Machining Service (CAMS) drew a fascinated crowd.
Funds raised on the day will go toward the final steps needed to get Omaka’s Fokker D.VIII back in the air — a goal made possible through the support and enthusiasm of everyone who attended.
A sincere thank-you to our volunteers, exhibitors, pilots, and visitors for helping make the day such a success. We look forward to seeing you all again at the next Wings & Wheels Open Day.
